Well, a new decision to change the way of teaching Science and Maths into Bahasa again had made by our Education Ministry yesterday. =.= The Government has decided to reverse the Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English policy and revert to Bahasa Malaysia in national schools and Chinese and Tamil in vernacular schools. WTH right???!! zzzz..
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that from year 2012, students in Year One and Four and Form One and Four in national primary and secondary schools would study the two subjects in Bahasa Malaysia while those in vernacular schools would be taught in their mother tongue (Chinese and Tamil). “Based on those observations and statistics about the results of Sc and Maths in the past few years, the Government is confident that Mathematics and Science should be taught in languages understood by students, which is Bahasa Malaysia in national schools, and Chinese and Tamil in the respective vernacular schools,” he said.
Languages understood by students = Bahasa Malaysia???? As we know, English is an international language and lets say we're now using BM or even Chinese or Tamil to learn our Sc and Maths, how students cope with their studies in a higher level or in tertiary level?? As all of us know, English is used in all the subjects in tertiary level no matter in what course, how our students be able to understand those terms of Science and Maths in English when they further their studies in a higher level in the future if we're using BM to teach them in the secondary level? Or can they be able to handle their studies overseas in the future if they can't even know about those terms and facts in English?? =.= How can Malaysians survive with just using Bahasa or handle well in BM as we know how important is English in this high-tech world now, right?
Well, that's very true about what our former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was behind the original policy of teaching both subjects in English said, " The future of our schoolchildren will be compromised with the Government reversing the teaching of Science and Mathematics from English to Bahasa Malaysia." He said again, "With the reversal of policy, schoolchildren would find it difficult to know more about the developments in the field of Science." That's very true, as English is the language used in the field of Science all around the world.
I'm still wondering how our country compete with other countries around the world as our English level and standard is still consider as quite low compared to lots of countries out there. Can Malaysia be 1 of the strong countries in few years time or when year 2020 comes? Can Wawasan 2020 be achieved? Nobody knows.. there's still a lot of question marks in our head now.... O.o
"Malaysia Boleh" ??
